Special website launched for CHIME/CMA conference
From 13 to 16 September 2012 The CHIME Foundation (European Foundation for Chinese Music Research) and Leiden University in The Netherlands jointly host a workshop on the topic of Chinese Instruments and Western Museums. Additionally, we have planned special sessions on Chinese and East-Asian instrumental and vocal folk music in honour of Antoinet Schimmelpenninck, co-founder of CHIME, who died on 15 April this year at the age of 49.
We look forward to an exciting programme, which will include a historical tour of Leiden, jam sessions of silk and bamboo music and Chinese zither music, an evening concert, a tour of historical Leiden, and excursions to two museums with E.Asian collections, the Leiden Folk Art Museum, and the Municipal Museum in The Hague.
If you play any Chinese instruments, please make sure to bring them!
The 17th century house which harbours the CHIME sound archive and library will be open at all hours during the meeting (evenings included) for informal gatherings. Paper sessions will be held at the Gravensteen, a 12th century castle in the heart of historical Leiden.
This event is co-organized and co-supported by the Chinese Music Archive Hong Kong (CMA), the Sinological Institute of Leiden University and the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS).
