Successful expert meeting on China’s visual arts
On 3 October, the Lloyd hotel in Amsterdam was the venue for an evening with experts on Chinese visual arts and related disciplines, organized by CEAC (Chinese European Art Centre) together with SICA Dutch Centre for International Activities.
In an intimate setting, 59 artists and experts on organizing and funding art events spoke over dinner and discussed various issues with visiting guests from China: Professor Qin Jian from Xiamen University (Tan Kah Kee College) and co founder of CEAC; SICA's China liaison officer Liu Gang, artist and expert in setting up projects with Dutch artists and Chen Wei, artist and curator at the Guangdong Museum of Modern Art. Last two guests are visiting the Netherlands by invitation from the Mondriaan Foundation’s visitors programme.
Themes of the discussions were a.o. practical aspects of working in China, Chinese national identity versus openness towards the West and the involvement of the government in setting up creative centers. The evening was a great success, many new contacts were made and projects conceived.
CEAC and SICA have indicated they would like to continue these informal meetings in order to stimulate and encourage cultural relations between China and The Netherlands.
The evening was supported by Mondriaan Foundation and Fonds BKVB.
