UvA meets China on 3 September
The University of Amsterdam will celebrate the opening of the 2013-2014 academic year on Monday, 2 September. During the opening, a number of speakers will expatiate on the theme ‘Amsterdam on the world stage: China’.
On Tuesday, 3 September, three events will be held, all of which will highlight the growing collaborative partnership between the UvA and China in the fields of teaching and education. One of these events will be a symposium for UvA researchers who are participating in Chinese projects. Together with Tsinghua University (Beijing), the UvA will also open a joint research centre in the field of logic, which will be located at Science Park Amsterdam. The day will be concluded with a networking event for alumni.
Employees, students and other interested parties are welcome to attend one or more of these events.
Three events will take place throughout the day.
Symposium: ‘Weaving threads between the UvA and China’
Time: 09:30 – 12:00 (doors open at 09:00)
Location: Doelenzaal , University Library, Singel 425, Amsterdam
During this symposium, a number of partnership initiatives between the UvA and China will be highlighted. All of the speakers have contributed to the publication The UvA meets China, which will be presented at the opening of the 2013-2014 academic year. The symposium will be chaired by Johan van Benthem, professor of Pure and Applied Logic at the University of Amsterdam.

Opening of the UvA-Tsinghua Research Centre for Logic

Location: ILLC , Science Park 105, Amsterdam
A special collaborative partnership between Beijing-based Tsinghua University and the University of Amsterdam: the UvA-Tsinghua Research Centre for Logic. The official opening of this research centre will take place at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation, which is located at Science Park Amsterdam.

During the networking event, there will be ample opportunity to speak with alumni. The event itself will take place at the Amsterdam Academic Club.
