Non-professional

In terms of financial matters, most of the dance companies and artists in Turkey are perceived in the amateur league compared to European counterparts. The only independent dance company which is financially supported by an institution other than the state is ZTDC.

On the other hand, when considering artistic standards and professional experience, almost all of the above mentioned artists and companies can be categorized as professionals. Thus, in Turkey, only the youngest artists and perhaps the ones who performed their first pieces can be categorized as amateurs according to artistic and aesthetic levels. Universities have dance clubs which are amateur, but sometimes even they work on a semi-professional level.
