Other important performing venues in Guangdong include the Friendship Theatre, the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Guangzhou, the Shenzhen Great Theatre in Shenzhen, the Yulan Theatre in Donggugan, the Culture and Art Centre in Zhongshan, and the Shunde Performance Art Centre. All these aforementioned venues can cater to the needs of large symphonies, operas, classical music performances, plays and other performances. A number of first-class art venues that can hold symphonies have also been constructed in Guangzhou. The construction project of the Guangzhou Opera House (an investment of RMB 850 million designed by Zaha Hadid) started construction at the end of 2002.
