USA: Black Heritage Tours goes New York State
This spring, the first pilot tours will be launched in preparation of the new Black Heritage Tour through New York State in June.
The tour starts in Albany, goes all the way down the Hudson Valley, and eventually ends in New York City – basically covering the area of the former Dutch colony of New Netherland. The full tour will be launched in June, but pilot editions are being organised for April and May. The full tour will be a three-day experience.
The tour specifically addresses the entanglement of Native American, African, and Dutch heritage in this region. Says co-founder of Black Heritage Tours Jennifer Tosch: “You cannot separate these parts from each other. The state still has a living history, and contains a lot of intangible traces that are very much alive to a broad range of people.”
