Amarte Fund: Music - Development grant
The Amarte Foundation was founded in 2019 by a number of families that share a deep love for the arts. Together they decided to offer financial means to innovative artists and support projects in music, theatre, film, visual arts, and literature. Amarte would like to serve as a springboard for artists, which is why they offer both development grants and project grants to realize relatively small scale projects.
The Music Development grant is meant to support musicians in the creation of their work. It can be used to write or compose a new album for example, develop a new research, or take the time to elaborate on an idea. This may include travel abroad.
- Professional musicians based in the Netherlands or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom, who want to take a new direction and could use a helping hand. Amarte particularly intends to be there for makers who are often deemed ineligible at other cultural funds;
- Cultural organisations can therefore only submit an application in cooperation with and on the initiative of an artist/maker for the development of one artistic project.
A maximum of €1,800
- The development period has a clear beginning and an end;
- The project is a the beginning stage of a creative process (projects that are already at an advanced stage therefore have less chance);
- In case the application is for the execution of an existing classical repertoire: on top of describing the ‘creative urge’, Amarte asks the applicant to describe how this execution differs from other performances of the same work and how the personal signature of the applicant will play an innovative role in this;
- The grant should be used for the purpose of creating or performing music (applications in which the grant is used largely for promotional costs have less chance);
- The total budget does not exceed €20,000;
- Lessons or courses can only be supported if these are embedded in the project;
- Material costs can ony be financed when these stem directly from the project applied for.
Amarte does not support:
- Study projects and/or scholarships;
- Projects that are entirely educational in nature;
- Ongoing organizational costs and general investments;
- Dance projects, music videos or live registrations.
Applications will be reviewed by the advisory committee Music. The most important factors they pay attention to are:
- Creative urge
- Talent development
- Artistic quality
- Realistic budget plan
- Level of progressivity and novelty in creative process or style
