Funding for small-scale projects, experiments and preliminary research in the field of architecture

The Creative Industries Fund is one of the 6 national cultural funds. It provides grants that contribute to promoting high-quality standards, development, and professionalisation of the contemporary creative industry in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

With the Architecture Kick-start Grant Scheme, the fund contributes to kick-start small-scale projects, experiments and preliminary research in the field of architecture. These projects may include travel abroad.

  • Professional makers, observers, design agencies, cultural institutions or organisations that demonstrably positions themselves within the field of architecture;
  • These organisations or profssionals need to be listed in the Business Register of the Dutch Chamber of Commerce or in one of the Business Registers within the Kingdom.

A grant may be requested for:

  • The execution of a small-scale and independent project that results in a final product, event or presentation;
  • A clearly defined experiment aimed at acquiring new knowledge;
  • Conducting preliminary research in preparation for a larger-scale project or collaboration.
How much

A maximum of € 10,000

Due to the small scale of the projects eligible for this grant scheme, the total project budget may not exceed €10,000 as well, including any co-financing or personal contribution from the applicant. Co-financing is possible but not mandatory.

Requirements
  • The project contributes to strengthening the quality, development or deepening of the field of architecture in the Netherlands or the Kingdom;
  • The project, or the project phase to which the grant relates, does not start before the decision date;
  • The project starts within four months of the decision date;
  • The duration of the project does not exceed 12 months;
  • The project has a budget deficit of a maximum of €10,000 and, in the opinion of the board, the need for a grant has been demonstrated;
  • The applicant’s methods can be reasonably expected to achieve the goals they have set;
  • The results of the project will be published or otherwise made public.
  • Applicants apply the Fair Practice Code in the implementation and justification of the project.
  • Grants may not be used for travel to an area where a travel advisory code red is in effect at the time of travel
  • If a project trip is no more than eight hours by train, the board will only reimburse costs for land travel.
