Mondriaan Fund: Residency
Mondriaan Fund: Residency
The Mondriaan Fund is one of the 6 national cultural funds, and supports and promotes the visual arts and cultural heritage in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
The Mondriaan Fund offers the Residency grant to help boost the artistic development and practice of visual artists, curators and art observers, in both the Netherlands and abroad. Participants spend a period at a Dutch or international studio designated by the Fund, allowing for the exploration of new (inter)national contacts and markets. The aim is the creation of work that makes a valuable contribution to contemporary visual art and/or cultural heritage in the Netherlands and/or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom.
Visual artists, curators, art critics and art observers from the Netherlans or the Caribbean part of the Kingdom who have been working professionally for at least one year and who wish to deepen their professional practices and expand their networks through a working period in one of the residencies offered by the Mondriaan Fund. See website for the all the specific residencies.
The grant is intended for travel, accommodation and material costs. The costs of living space, working space and the support that residents receive are paid directly to the residency by the Mondriaan Fund.
Grant amounts vary depending on the location and duration of the residency.
Residents are required to pay at least 10% of the sum determined by the Mondriaan Fund for the work period. This can be a personal investment, contributions from third parties, an interest-free loan from Fonds Kwadraat, or a contribution through crowdfunding. The grant for residents living in the Caribbean part of the Kingdom may be higher, in order to cover potentially higher travel costs. This will be assessed in each individual case.
