The Netherlands Film Fund is the national cultural fund for the professional, independent film sector in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. It provides financial support for the development, production and distribution of film productions and film-related activities.

This scheme provides financial support to distributors releasing international high-quality children's films in the Netherlands, allowing them to dub the film into Dutch for theatrical release. This enhances accessibility for young audiences and reduces the distributor’s financial risk. The aim of this scheme is to promote the availability and diversity of high-quality children's films in cinemas.

Who can apply
Organisations

Film distributors that have been established in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, an EU or EEA member state, or Switzerland for at least two years before applying. The distributor must also have continuously released high-quality (children's) films and/or documentaries in Dutch cinemas and film theaters.

20% of the estimated dubbing costs must be covered by the applicant.

Requirements
  • The foreign children's film is a bold, artistic, high-quality, and distinctive international production that adds value to Dutch film culture;
  • The film has a minimum runtime of 60 minutes (exceptions can be made for toddler and preschool films);
  • The film is not released through sub-distribution;
  • The dubbing costs are not already covered by third-party funding (such as NPO, Creative Europe MEDIA, or Eurimages);
  • The film must have a nationwide theatrical release within 12 months of the grant being awarded;
  • At least 60% of the theaters screening the film in the first four weeks must be film theaters;
  • The distributor must submit the release date for approval by the Film Fund, aiming to distribute films across different school holidays.
