Funding for Dutch film distributors

Dutch film distributors can apply for a project grant for the cinema release of a foreign high-quality children's and youth film in the Netherlands, selected at an international film festival.

Who can apply
Organisations

A film distributor from the Kingdom of the Netherlands that, for at least two years preceding the application, has consistently released films in Dutch cinemas and film theaters.

How much

A maximum of €25,000 to support the print and advertising budget for the release of the film.
An additional contribution of up to €15,000 can be requested for dubbing.

Requirements
  • The film is a pronounced, artistic, high-quality, and distinctive international film production, adding value to the film culture in the Netherlands.
  • The film has been selected for at least one prominent international film festival listed inthe International Film Festivals – International Festival Selection & Foreign Arthouse Films and Documentaries list, not more than 1 year prior to the submission deadline.
  • The film is not released through sub-distribution.
  • The marketing and distribution plan, along with the marketing and distribution budget and underlying guarantees regarding the cinema release and non-theatrical release, are of such quality that there is a feasible, well-thought-out, and realistic audience approach based on which the film production will have an optimal national reach.
  • The film has a duration of at least 60 minutes (exceptions can be made for toddler and preschool films regarding duration).
  • Children's and youth films that have already received a distribution contribution under another Fund regulation are not eligible for support under this regulation.
  • The film must have a nationwide theatrical release within the 12 months after the grant approval.
  • At least 60% of the theaters where the film is released, considering the first four weeks of release, are film theaters.
    The distributor submits the release date to the Film Fund for approval. Diversification of titles across different school holidays is aimed for.
When to apply
Before a specific deadline
Several deadlines a year. Please check te website of the Dutch Film Fund for the actual dates. The release date of the film is not earlier than 8 weeks after the application deadline.
