Taalunie: Subsidy for writer visits worldwide

Taalunie: Subsidy for writer visits worldwide

Taalunie: Subsidie voor schrijversbezoek wereldwijd
Funding for hosting a Dutch-language writer

The Taalunie develops and promotes policy on Dutch in the Netherlands, Flanders and Suriname, and champions the Dutch language around the world. Thanks to this funding scheme, departments of Dutch as a foreign language in primary, secondary, and higher education outside the Dutch-speaking region can host a writer.

The Taalunie collaborates with the Dutch Foundation for Literature and Flanders Literature to make this scheme financially possible. The program consists of two parts:

  1. Writer in the Classroom, for an in-person visit
  2. Writer on Your Screen, for an online visit

A writer's visit serves multiple goals, such as:

  • Enriching Dutch language education at the requesting institution
  • Increasing the visibility and distribution of Dutch-language literature abroad
  • Promoting recent translations of Dutch-language works in the applicant's region
  • Sparking interest in literary translation among learners and teachers of Dutch as a foreign language
  • Providing Dutch-speaking authors with an inspiring experience and expanding their network
