Mapping Netherlands: Film

This mapping provides a brief overview of the Dutch film sector.
Remi, Nobody's Boy (2016) is a modern adaptation of the renowned book (1878) by French author Hector Malot. Director: Margien Rogaar, Steven Wouterlood. Producer: Lemming Film. Photo: Sal Kroonenberg.

Its starting point is the basic infrastructure, the structural funding system of the Dutch Ministry of Culture.

You will find basic information on funding and policy institutions, research and education facilities, as well as organizations that produce and present feature films, shorts and documentaries.

The Dutch film industry is a small but flourishing sector. Dutch art house films and documentaries in particular find their way to an international crowd. The Rotterdam Film Festival and the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) are leading festivals worldwide, but there are many other cutting edge initiatives in the film sector, for instance in youth film.
