North Sea Neighbours magazine celebrates NL-UK cultural ties

"Culture plays a pivotal role in bridging the narrow sea that divides us", says Simon Smits, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Kingdom. To celebrate the deep connections between cultural professionals from the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and to explore how Brexit effects the collaborations, the Dutch Embassy in London has published a magazine full of interviews with Dutch artists that work in the UK and British creatives earning their money in the Netherlands.

Culture as anchor in Anglo-Dutch relationship

Now that the United Kingdom is leaving the European Union, extra efforts are required to keep the ties between our nations strong. The frequency at which politicians from the Netherlands and the UK meet will likely decrease, trade levels between the UK and the EU are bound to reduce and we will probably see less migration of Dutch and British citizens between Britain and "the continent". Hence, after Brexit the arts will play an even more important role in that longstanding, stable relationship between the Dutch and British North Sea Neighbours.

At the event Antwoorden na Brexit (Wednesday February 5) free copies of the magazine North Sea Neighbours Strengthening cultural ties between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands will be available. Cultural attaché Roel van de Ven, editor Arnoud Breitbarth and artist Janice McNab will be present to share their insights about the publication and to discuss how Brexit effects artistic practices.
