Dutch musicians Marnix Dorrestein and Willem Wits have been working together as a music duo called Ciao Lucifer for years and have actually been on several international tours. In 2019, they travelled to Indonesia to write new songs and to perform live together with local artists. One of the highlights of their tour was their collaboration with Rubah di Selatan from Jogyakarta.

Sinanggar Tullo

Together with this Indonesian band, they wrote and composed the magical neo-folk song Tullo, referring to the old Sumatranian chant Sinanggar Tullo. This famous chant is dilvered by oral history and still very well known among Indonesian people. The two bands recorded the song in the area of Jogya, looking out over the rice fields.

Two years later, international touring was not possible due to the pandemic. Thus, Ciao Lucifer took the opportunity to edit the recorded material and finish the song. Recently, the single was resleased on various platforms, such as Spotify.

Unforgettable experience

The members of Rubah Di Selatan also look back on a fruitful and inspirational collaboration. “It was an unforgettable experience collaborating with our Ciao Lucifer and after a long discussion, Tullo was born! And it is an honor for us that Tullo has traveled all over the world from Indonesia, Namibië, Japan, Canada, Oeganda, Rusland, Italy, Ecuador, the United States, Greece, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands of course! Thank you so much everyone!” They write on Instagram.
