ANV Funds Foundation: Visser-Neerlandia Prizes
ANV Funds Foundation: Visser-Neerlandia Prizes
The ANV (Algemeen Nederlands Verbond) is an association dedicated to fostering the development of the Dutch language and cultural community worldwide, promoting cultural integration between the Netherlands and Flanders, and maintaining ties with the related Afrikaans language and its associated cultural communities.
Under its umbrella, the ANV manages the ANV Funds Foundation, which provides financial support for activities and projects aligned with the organisation's goals. It is within this framework that the ANV Funds Foundation annually hosts the annual Visser-Neerlandia Prizes.
There are three different prizes. The cultural prize is for individuals or organisations dedicated to promoting the culture of the Netherlands or the Dutch language worldwide. The societal prize is for individuals or organisations involved in projects with societal significance. The personal prize is for individuals who selflessly contribute to society or have a distinguished career with initiatives that go far beyond what is normally expected in their profession.
Candidates need to be nominated by a third party. Anyone can nominate an individual or organization for a Visser-Neerlandia Prize.
Up to €15,000.
The main criteria for awarding the prize is the alignment with the ideals of Mr. Herman Visser (commitment to a better society, visionary and critical independent thinking, uniting people around ideals that lead to a better society, tolerance for those with different views, promoting cultural and/or scientific development, solidarity with contemporary outcasts) and alignment with (one of) the objectives of the ANV:
- Preservation and development of the Dutch language and cultural community worldwide;
- Promotion of the cultural integration of the Netherlands and Flanders;
- Maintaining connections with the related language, Afrikaans, and the associated cultural communities.
