Netherlands Film Fund: Cinema Release of Foreign Arthouse Film or Documentary in the Netherlands
The Netherlands Film Fund is the national cultural fund for the professional, independent film sector in the Netherlands and the Caribbean part of the Kingdom. It provides financial support for the development, production and distribution of film productions and film-related activities.
This scheme aims to reduce the financial risk for Dutch film distributors who want to release a foreign arthouse film or documentary in the Netherlands. It focuses on bold, artistic, high-quality, and distinctive films that contribute to the (cultural) diversity of the Dutch film landscape. This also includes high-quality foreign children's and youth films.
A film distributor from the Kingdom of the Netherlands who, for at least two years prior to the application, has consistently released films in Dutch cinemas and film theaters.
A maximum of €20,000.
- The foreign arthouse film or documentary is a pronounced, artistic, high-quality, and distinctive international film production, with added value for the film culture in the Netherlands;
- The film or documentary for which the application is submitted, has been selected for a leading international film festival, as listed in the International Film Festivals – International Festival Selection & Foreign Arthouse Films and Documentaries list, no later than 1 year prior to the application deadline;
- The film is not released in sub-distribution;
- The marketing and distribution plan, along with the marketing and distribution budget and underlying guarantees regarding the cinema release and non-theatrical release, is of such quality that there is a feasible, well-thought-out, and realistic audience approach based on which the film production will have an optimal reach nationally.
- The Film Fund's contribution must be demonstrably invested in the marketing and promotion, as well as prints and advertising, of the foreign arthouse film or documentary;
- The release date of the arthouse film or documentary is scheduled no earlier than 8 weeks after the application deadline;
- The applicant must match the Fund’s contribution 100% in Prints & Advertising;
- There is no contribution from the Creative Europe MEDIA "Films on the Move" distribution scheme;
- The Film Fund's contribution must be demonstrably invested in the marketing and promotion of the foreign arthouse film or documentary.
