Funding for Dutch film directors or producers to attend festival screenings of their film abroad

SEE NL is a collaboration between Eye Filmmuseum and the Netherlands Film Fund. It is responsible for internationally promoting Dutch films, the Dutch film industry and Dutch film culture.

To promote Dutch films abroad, directors and/or producers (sometimes leading actors or screenwriters) from the Kingdom of the Netherlands are often invited to attend the screening of their film at festivals. To visit a select number of festivals, SEE NL can provide a contribution towards the travel costs of directors and producers.

A contribution to travel expenses.

How much

Feature films
Two-thirds of the cost of the cheapest ticket to the destination.

  • with a maximum of €600 outside Europe
  • with a maximum of €200 within Europe

Short films
Two-thirds of the cost of the cheapest ticket to the destination.

  • with a maximum of €300 outside Europe
  • with a maximum of €150 within Europe

Non-eligible costs

  • Costs for additional public transport and/or taxi fares
  • Costs incurred for making ticket changes and cancellations

Sustainability bonus
SEE NL encourages taking more sustainable forms of travel. Going to a destination by train is awarded a sustainability bonus of €50, to be added to the invoice. This entails a declaration of 2/3 of the ticket price + €50, up to the maximum payable amount.

Travel by car
If the destination is in Europe and you travel by car, SEE NL offers a mileage allowance of €0.21 per km. The maximum claimable amount remains equal to the promised contribution.

Requirements
  • The invitation must come from a festival listed on the SEE NL Travel Grant List.
  • The festival must have sent an official invitation and must provide at least one of the invitees (either director or producer) at least 3 nights of accommodation.
  • Only Dutch productions or Dutch majority co-productions are eligible. A modified scheme applies to minority feature co-productions. Please contact SEE NL for information on the latter.
  •  For each festival, a maximum of two travel grants can be requested per film (one for the director and one for the producer);
  • A maximum of two travel grants per film can be requested per year for two different festivals;
  • Applications must be submitted by email and should include the official festival invitation, which also confirms the number of nights of accommodation offered;
  • If applying for both the director and the producer, this must be included in one single application.
